Why Regular Boiler Maintenance is Crucial for Your Calverton, NY Home
When the weather gets cold and you flip on the thermostat or you want to take a shower and you turn on the hot water, you have your boiler to thank. As the central component of your Calverton, NY home’s heating system, a boiler is vital for your safety and comfort. In order to ensure that you remain safe and comfortable all year long, annual boiler maintenance is an absolute must. Here’s a look at just some of the reasons why you need to make sure that you have your boiler serviced at least once a year.
Improved Energy Efficiency
When your boiler is properly maintained, it operates more efficiently. Since it’s constantly running, the components within your boiler experience a great deal of wear and tear. If those components aren’t properly maintained, they can break down and your boiler will need to work harder in order to do its job, and the harder it works, the more energy it uses. A reputable Suffolk County boiler maintenance technician will inspect the appliance, clean the components, and change out the filter to ensure your gas, steam, or other boiler system is functioning properly and working with high efficiency.
Routine boiler maintenance helps to prolong the life of the appliance. Because the components will be inspected, cleaned, and maintained, your boiler won’t have to work as hard and will experience less wear and tear throughout your daily boiler operation. All of these factors combined means that having your boiler maintained by a Suffolk County professional at least once a year can help to extend the lifespan of the heating system in your Calverton, NY home. Not only that, it lowers the likelihood of encountering issues with pilot lights, burner flames, heat exchangers, or water levels leaking water as the gas boiler heats.
A lot of people forego routine boiler maintenance to avoid an additional expense; however, in reality, failing to have the appliance maintained can actually end up costing you more in the long run. During routine maintenance, a reputable professional will perform a complete assessment of all of the working components of your boiler. If any issues are detected, they’ll make the necessary corrections, which can help you avoid more costly repairs down the road. Plus, because a well-maintained boiler runs more efficiently, you’ll spend less on your utility bills. These factors combined mean that regular boiler service can end up saving you a good bit of money.
Better Air Quality
When your furnace is dirty, the air inside your home isn’t clean. Breathing in dirty air can make allergies worse and increase risk of respiratory problems. During routine boiler maintenance, filters will be cleaned or replaced, which means there will be less pollen, dust, pet dander, and other types of allergens and debris in the home. When your furnace maintenance is on point, you’ll breathe a lot easier – literally!
While generally safe, boilers can become dangerous if they aren’t properly maintained. If components malfunction, there’s a chance that electrical components could break, valves could loosen, and leaks could occur, for example, which could lead to serious and potentially dangerous issues. When you have an experienced Suffolk County technician that specializes in boiler repair, they’ll be able to detect any underlying issues and correct them, which can prevent the risk of more serious and possible hazardous issues from occurring. An investment in routine boiler maintenance is an investment in the safety of your Calverton, NY home.
Boilers play a vital role in any household because they are the foundation of your heating system. When it’s cold outside, turn on your thermostat and you’ll enjoy some nice warmth. If you need to take a hot shower, just turn on your faucet and there will be hot water for you. That’s the magic of boiler maintenance! With regular inspections and repairs, you’ll always have reliable heat and comfort.

Calverton is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) on eastern Long Island in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 6,510 at the 2010 census.
Calverton was first referred to as “Baiting Hollow Station” when the Long Island Rail Road arrived in 1844. The station closed in 1958, but the sheltered shed for the station remained standing as of 2007.
The area’s Native American name was Conungum or Kanungum, meaning “fixed line” or “boundary”. In 1868, the Calverton post office opened, named for Bernard J. Calvert. It remained a small farming community specializing in cranberries, which grew in swampy areas along the Peconic River until the Navy purchase.
Calverton’s history is tied closely to Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, Calverton. In 1953, the United States Navy purchased 6,000 acres (24 km2) around Calverton from a local farmer named Harry Edwards, including the mansion of a grandson of Frank Winfield Woolworth’s, so that Grumman could test and finish jets. A 10,000-foot (3,000 m) runway was built, and most of Grumman’s F-14 Tomcat and E-2C Hawkeye aircraft were to pass through the plant.Learn more about Calverton.

Boilers are best located in your home’s kitchen, utility room, basement, garage, or loft. It is important as a homeowner to know where your boiler is located as in many homes they are usually hidden away or in a discreet part of the house.
You can install a boiler in a bedroom as long as it is room sealed. This means that it takes the air it uses for combustion from outside, and expels its waste air outside also. A room sealed boiler won’t emit fumes into the room, making it safe to be installed in a room where people sleep.
It is important to know when your boiler may need to be repaired. A boiler is dangerous when the following occur: a gas smell when the boiler is running, scorching or brown marks on the boiler, a musty smell or signs of soot, increased condensation on your windows. All these indicators suggest the boiler may have a potentially dangerous fault and an engineer should be contacted immediately.
