Routine Boiler Service Explained

As the central component of your Nesconset, NY home’s heating system, it’s used on a constant basis, so it makes sense why regularly maintaining the appliance is so important. If you’ve ever had a boiler service before, however, you may have a few questions about the process. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions that Suffolk County homeowners have about routine boiler services.

What happens during regular boiler service?

During a boiler service, a Suffolk County professional boiler company will perform a complete assessment of your Nesconset, NY home’s heating system. A technician will run several tests on the system, will check for any issues, and will clean all of the components of the system.

If any issues are detected, the technician will let you know and can make the necessary repairs. Once your boiler service is completed, the professional will go over the work that was completed and will either hang a tag onto the system or will update the tag that’s already there.

How much time does boiler service take?

While there is no set amount of time that it will take for a boiler service to be completed, in general, it takes under an hour. However, it’s important to note that there are factors that could impact the timeframe; for example, the location of your boiler, the age of your heating system, and whether any issues exist and need to be repaired. If it seems like your boiler service is going to take longer than average, your Suffolk County repair technician will let you know.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

According to experts, a boiler should be serviced at least once a year. If you have a large house or a lot of people live in your Nesconset, NY household, you may need to have it serviced more often. That’s because the larger your house is and the more people who live in your Nesconset, NY home, the more your boiler is going to have to work in order to heat the space and produce hot water for everyone who requires it.

When is the optimal time to get your boiler serviced?

The best time to have your boiler serviced is during the late spring, over the summer, or in the early fall. During these times of the year, the weather is warm, so you aren’t reliant on heat. It’s better to have your boiler serviced when your heating demand is lower because if any issues are detected, they can be fixed before the cold weather arrives and you’ll be prepared to heat your home when the chilly temperatures do arrive.

Reasons to Schedule Regular Boiler Services

If you aren’t certain if you really need to have your Nesconset, NY boiler serviced, here’s a look at five good reasons why you should really consider it.

Improved Safety

The most important reason to have your boiler serviced is to ensure the safety of your home and the people who live within it. Since it’s a fuel-burning appliance, if it isn’t functioning properly, it could release carbon monoxide. With regular service, a reputable Suffolk County boiler repair company will be able to identify any issues and correct them, thus increasing your safety.

Enhanced Comfort

When your boiler is serviced regularly, it starts working better. And when it’s able to work better, you’ll have more energy-efficient and reliable heat and hot water. When you have access to reliable heat and hot water, you can be confident knowing that your family will be comfortable during cold temperatures and always have heat in the shower.

Cost savings

Regularly servicing your boiler will help you save money. When it functions properly, it’s more efficient, which means you won’t have to spend as much on fuel oil or natural gas. Additionally, boiler service can identify minor problems that will cost less to repair before they become bigger, more costly issues. These two factors combined mean that regular boiler service can help you save a substantial amount of money.

Nesconset is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Smithtown, located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States. The population was 13,387 at the 2010 census.

Prior to contemporary settlement, a sparse population of farmers were lived near Lake Ronkonkoma. A primitive road network existed as Gibbs Pond Road, Browns Road, Old Nichols Road, Townline Road and the predecessor of Smithtown Boulevard. In 1904, brothers and French immigrants Louis and Clemen Vion came to the Pine Barrens of southeastern Smithtown from Manhattan on numerous occasions as sportsmen. By 1910, the brothers fell a line of trees off of Gibbs Pond Road immediately south of modern-day NY-347 to create Midwood Avenue. They built their home on this street where it still present.

As the population grew, a lumber yard, general store, and post office were constructed in 1908. The historic Nesconset Schoolhouse was built in 1910 and the Nesconset Fire Department was built by 1935, A commercial center emerged where Lake Avenue South and Gibbs Pond Road meet. The brothers decided to name the newly established settlement after Smithtown’s local historical figure, Nasseconsett, who deeded the Nissequogue people’s land to Richard Smith. Later development was concentrated on Lake Avenue South, Southern Boulevard and the Lake Ronkonkoma area along Gibbs Pond Road in the form of summer residences.

By 1930, Nesconset had a population of 50 people along Lake Avenue and spread along Smithtown Boulevard and Gibbs Pond Road. The construction of NY-347 in the 1950s opened the southeast corner of Smithtown to rapid residential development to Storybook Homes by bisecting the small center of the hamlet. This forced the shift of the commercial center of Nesconset to Smithtown Boulevard between Old Nichols Road and Southern Boulevard. This area was known formerly as East Hauppauge.

FAQ

If the job is a straight boiler swap, it will take 4-6 hours to complete. If you need to change the position of your boiler or changing the type of boiler you have, the job will take between 1-4 days.

Boilers are best located in your home’s kitchen, utility room, basement, garage, or loft. It is important as a homeowner to know where your boiler is located as in many homes they are usually hidden away or in a discreet part of the house.

You can install a boiler in a bedroom as long as it is room sealed. This means that it takes the air it uses for combustion from outside, and expels its waste air outside also. A room sealed boiler won’t emit fumes into the room, making it safe to be installed in a room where people sleep.

It is important to know when your boiler may need to be repaired. A boiler is dangerous when the following occur: a gas smell when the boiler is running, scorching or brown marks on the boiler, a musty smell or signs of soot, increased condensation on your windows. All these indicators suggest the boiler may have a potentially dangerous fault and an engineer should be contacted immediately.
