Signs You Need to Contact a Boiler Repair Company in Nassau County

As the foundation of your heating system, a boiler is one of the most important appliances in your Oyster Bay, NY home. When the cold weather blows in, you rely on it to keep you warm, and when you need hot water, you have your boiler to thank.

Due to constant use, general wear and tear, and age, the components of your boiler can start to break down, and when they do, you need to call in a reputable Nassau County boiler repair company right away. But how do you know when your boiler needs to be repaired? Here’s a look at some of the key signs that the appliance needs to be serviced.

Unreliable Heat and Hot Water

If your heating registers are blowing out cool air, you have to constantly increase your thermostat in order to maintain the comfort of your Oyster Bay, NY house, or you run out of hot water not long after you step into the shower, there’s a good chance that your boiler is malfunctioning. If it seems like your heat and hot water is unreliable, call in a reputable Nassau County boiler repair company as soon as possible.

Rising Utility Bills

If it seems like you’re going through oil or gas a lot faster than usual and your utility bills have gone up, even though you aren’t using more hot water and your thermostat isn’t set any higher than usual, something could be wrong with your boiler. A malfunctioning boiler has to work harder to generate heat, and the harder it works, the more energy it uses, and obviously, the more energy your boiler uses, the higher your utility bills are going to be.

Odd Sounds

It’s not unusual to hear some degree of noise coming from your boiler, but usually, the sound is minimal and it fades into the background. If, however, you hear strange sounds – banging, rumbling, whistling, whirring, or clanging, for example – something is definitely awry. Get in touch with a reputable Nassau County boiler maintenance company as soon as possible and they’ll perform a complete inspection to determine the cause of the problem and will make any necessary repairs.

Leaks

There are several factors that can lead to a leak in a boiler; loose connections and cracks in the tank are just two examples. Whatever the reason, if you have noticed a puddle of water on the floor around your boiler, call in a professional to have it inspected right away; the longer you wait, the more extensive the damage can become, and you could be looking at serious issues and more costly repairs.

Foul Odors

When a boiler kicks on – especially after it’s been off for a while – it’s common to smell a slight odor. Usually, the scent is slight and is the result of dirt and dust that has settled on the heating register burning off. If you smell an unusual scent, however, that’s cause for concern; rotten eggs, an electrical odor, or something burning, for example, could be a sign of a serious problem, such as a gas leak or faulty wiring. As soon as you smell something strange, calling in a licensed and insured Nassau County boiler repair company immediately is an absolute must.

Contact a Nassau County Boiler Repair Company You Can Rely On

A boiler repair company will be able to help you with any of these problems, but you don’t want to hire just any company. The Town of Oyster Bay is the easternmost of the three towns which make up Nassau County, New York, in the United States. Part of the New York metropolitan area, it is the only town in Nassau County to extend from the North Shore to the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 293,214.

Succeeding cultures of indigenous peoples had lived in the area for thousands of years. At the time of European contact, the Lenape (Delaware) nation inhabited western Long Island. By 1600 the band inhabiting the local area was called the Matinecock after their location, but they were Lenape people.

Following European colonization, the area became part of the colony of New Netherland. In 1639, the Dutch West India Company made its first purchase of land on Long Island from the local Native Americans. The English also had colonies on Long Island at this time. The Dutch did not dispute English claims to what is now Suffolk County, but when settlers from New England arrived in (present-day) Oyster Bay in 1640, they were soon arrested as part of a boundary dispute. In 1643, Englishmen purchased land in the present-day town of Hempstead from the Indians that included land purchased by the Dutch in 1639. Nevertheless, in 1644, the Dutch director granted a patent for Hempstead to the English.

The Dutch also granted other English settlements in Flushing, Newtown, and Jamaica. In 1650, the Treaty of Hartford established a boundary between Dutch and English claims at “Oysterbay”, by which the Dutch meant present-day Cold Spring Harbor (to the east) and the English meant all of the water connected to present-day Oyster Bay Harbor. Meanwhile, the government of England came under the control of Oliver Cromwell as a republic, and smugglers took advantage of the unresolved border dispute. In 1653, English settlers made their first purchase of land in Oyster Bay from the local Matinecock tribe, though there were already some rogue English settlements there. For this purchase, the English settlers paid to the Native American Moheness (aka Assiapum), “six kettles, six fathoms of wampum, six hoes, six hatchets, three pairs of stockings, thirty awl-blades or muxes, twenty knives, three shirts and as much Peague as will amount to four pounds sterling.” The monarchy was restored in England in 1660, and in 1664 King Charles gave Long Island (and much else) to his brother James, leading to the Dutch relinquishing control of all of New Amsterdam.

FAQ

If the job is a straight boiler swap, it will take 4-6 hours to complete. If you need to change the position of your boiler or changing the type of boiler you have, the job will take between 1-4 days.

Boilers are best located in your home’s kitchen, utility room, basement, garage, or loft. It is important as a homeowner to know where your boiler is located as in many homes they are usually hidden away or in a discreet part of the house.

You can install a boiler in a bedroom as long as it is room sealed. This means that it takes the air it uses for combustion from outside, and expels its waste air outside also. A room sealed boiler won’t emit fumes into the room, making it safe to be installed in a room where people sleep.

It is important to know when your boiler may need to be repaired. A boiler is dangerous when the following occur: a gas smell when the boiler is running, scorching or brown marks on the boiler, a musty smell or signs of soot, increased condensation on your windows. All these indicators suggest the boiler may have a potentially dangerous fault and an engineer should be contacted immediately.
