Why Regular Boiler Maintenance is Crucial for Your Plainview, NY Home

When the weather gets cold and you flip on the thermostat or you want to take a shower and you turn on the hot water, you have your boiler to thank. As the central component of your Plainview, NY home’s heating system, a boiler is vital for your safety and comfort. In order to ensure that you remain safe and comfortable all year long, annual boiler maintenance is an absolute must. Here’s a look at just some of the reasons why you need to make sure that you have your boiler serviced at least once a year.

Improved Energy Efficiency

When your boiler is properly maintained, it operates more efficiently. Since it’s constantly running, the components within your boiler experience a great deal of wear and tear. If those components aren’t properly maintained, they can break down and your boiler will need to work harder in order to do its job, and the harder it works, the more energy it uses. A reputable Nassau County boiler maintenance technician will inspect the appliance, clean the components, and change out the filter to ensure your gas, steam, or other boiler system is functioning properly and working with high efficiency.

Extended Lifespan

Routine boiler maintenance helps to prolong the life of the appliance. Because the components will be inspected, cleaned, and maintained, your boiler won’t have to work as hard and will experience less wear and tear throughout your daily boiler operation. All of these factors combined means that having your boiler maintained by a Nassau County professional at least once a year can help to extend the lifespan of the heating system in your Plainview, NY home. Not only that, it lowers the likelihood of encountering issues with pilot lights, burner flames, heat exchangers, or water levels leaking water as the gas boiler heats.

Cost Savings

A lot of people forego routine boiler maintenance to avoid an additional expense; however, in reality, failing to have the appliance maintained can actually end up costing you more in the long run. During routine maintenance, a reputable professional will perform a complete assessment of all of the working components of your boiler. If any issues are detected, they’ll make the necessary corrections, which can help you avoid more costly repairs down the road. Plus, because a well-maintained boiler runs more efficiently, you’ll spend less on your utility bills. These factors combined mean that regular boiler service can end up saving you a good bit of money.

Better Air Quality

When your furnace is dirty, the air inside your home isn’t clean. Breathing in dirty air can make allergies worse and increase risk of respiratory problems. During routine boiler maintenance, filters will be cleaned or replaced, which means there will be less pollen, dust, pet dander, and other types of allergens and debris in the home. When your furnace maintenance is on point, you’ll breathe a lot easier – literally!

Increased Safety

While generally safe, boilers can become dangerous if they aren’t properly maintained. If components malfunction, there’s a chance that electrical components could break, valves could loosen, and leaks could occur, for example, which could lead to serious and potentially dangerous issues. When you have an experienced Nassau County technician that specializes in boiler repair, they’ll be able to detect any underlying issues and correct them, which can prevent the risk of more serious and possible hazardous issues from occurring. An investment in routine boiler maintenance is an investment in the safety of your Plainview, NY home.

Enhanced Comfort

Boilers play a vital role in any household because they are the foundation of your heating system. When it’s cold outside, turn on your thermostat and you’ll enjoy some nice warmth. If you need to take a hot shower, just turn on your faucet and there will be hot water for you. That’s the magic of boiler maintenance! With regular inspections and repairs, you’ll always have reliable heat and comfort.

Plainview is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located near the North Shore of Long Island in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP as of 2010 was 26,217. The Plainview post office has the ZIP code 11803.

Plainview’s origins date to 1648, when Robert Williams, a settler from Wales, bought land in the area. The land was considered desirable for farming because of a small pond named the Moscopas by local Native Americans, meaning “hole of dirt and water”. The remainder of the land in the area was purchased by Thomas Powell in 1695 as part of the Bethpage Purchase. The name “Mannatto Hill” had already appeared on the 1695 deed of the Bethpage Purchase, and the settlement came to be called “Manetto Hill”. Manitou was the Native American word either for “god” or for “spirit”.

The 1837 arrival of the Long Island Rail Road to nearby Hicksville brought a boom to local farming. In 1885, residents of Manetto Hill petitioned the United States Postal Service for a local post office, but were turned down because, according to several accounts, a similar name was already in use upstate. The hamlet was then named “Plainview”, for the view of the Hempstead Plains from the top of the Manetto Hills.

Plainview remained a farming community, famous for growing cucumbers for the huge Heinz pickle factories located in nearby Farmingdale and Hicksville. In the early 1900s blight destroyed the cucumber crop and many farmers switched to potatoes. After World War II, a potato blight combined with the desire of many returning GIs to leave New York City for the more rural Long Island, convinced many farmers to sell their property, leading to massive development in the area, giving rise to so-called suburban sprawl. Between 1950 and 1960, the hamlet grew from a population of 1,155 to more than 35,000. Most of the available land was developed during this period or otherwise designated as parkland. While overall development declined it did continue sporadically as smaller remaining parcels of land were also developed. In recent years, some of the few large remaining parcels have given way to gated communities, which are in contrast to most housing in the area. Some of these developments include “The Hamlet on Olde Oyster Bay” and “The Seasons at Plainview”, a residential community focused on over age 55 residents and first time home buyers.

FAQ

If the job is a straight boiler swap, it will take 4-6 hours to complete. If you need to change the position of your boiler or changing the type of boiler you have, the job will take between 1-4 days.

Boilers are best located in your home’s kitchen, utility room, basement, garage, or loft. It is important as a homeowner to know where your boiler is located as in many homes they are usually hidden away or in a discreet part of the house.

You can install a boiler in a bedroom as long as it is room sealed. This means that it takes the air it uses for combustion from outside, and expels its waste air outside also. A room sealed boiler won’t emit fumes into the room, making it safe to be installed in a room where people sleep.

It is important to know when your boiler may need to be repaired. A boiler is dangerous when the following occur: a gas smell when the boiler is running, scorching or brown marks on the boiler, a musty smell or signs of soot, increased condensation on your windows. All these indicators suggest the boiler may have a potentially dangerous fault and an engineer should be contacted immediately.
